Pros and Cons of Blue-9 KLIMB Dog Training Platform

If you are in the dog training world you might have heard about the KLIMB platform before as it is very popular with professional trainers, dog sport handlers, and pet owners. There are several dog training platforms out there and as a professional dog trainer, I want to give my thoughts on the pros and cons of this specific one.

What is the Blue-9 KLIMB?

The KLIMB is an elevated training platform that is useful for teaching your dog a variety of skills like “place” training, fitness skills, tricks, and dog sport training.

Training platforms are a piece of equipment used to aid your training journey with your dog and produce more focus and body awareness.

Now lets get into the pros and cons!

Pro: Durable and Weather Resistant

This platform can be used indoors or outdoors and let me tell you that I have left my KLIMBS out for the harsh Northern Michigan weathers and they still look and function great! I appreciate that my forgetfulness does not harm the sturdy material.

Pro: Portable

The removable legs that store underneath the KLIMB make it easy to transport. I can store several KLIMBS in the trunk of my car to take to training classes and set up each one within 30 seconds.

Pro: Modular & Adjustable Design

Perhaps my FAVORITE thing about the KLIMBs are how modular they are. They feel like Legos!

If you need a larger platform you can slot two KLIMBs together and they lock in securely. If you need a taller platform, the legs of the KLIMB and the base KLIMB fit together snuggly.

KLIMB has accessories like the 6” Short Legs and the Sure Feet that can be used on their own, or you can get creative and use two 6” Short Legs to make a wobble board!

I can’t get enough of many choices there are!

Con: Higher Price Point

Perhaps my biggest con for the KLIMB is the cost. KLIMBS are about $160 on average for just the base platform and while it is a high-quality investment, it can be a major drawback for some dog owners.

Con: May be Too Small for Some Dogs

For some large to giant breed dogs, one KLIMB may be too small for the dog to comfortably stand with proper form. You may have to purchase two KLIMBs and connect them (easy to do) in order to have a large enough platform for doing standing exercises.

Is the KLIMB Worth It?
A Final Verdict!

I personally love my KLIMBs- but would I recommend them for every dog owner?

I recommend KLIMBS for:

  • Owners who are super interested in doing lots of fitness, tricks, or sports with their dog

  • Professional trainers and handlers

  • Owners of multiple dogs

  • Those who want an outdoor-safe platform

Budget-Friendly Alternatives

An alternative to the KLIMB if you are on a budget is the CATO Board at around $80. CATO also makes an extra long board for larger dogs if you prefer purchasing one platform instead of two KLIMBS.

Elevated dog beds can be another great option for Place training are usually range from $25 and up.
